Lathallan School

Nestled on a picturesque 62-acre estate on the North East Scottish coastline — just 45 minutes from Aberdeen Airport—Lathallan School offers an extraordinary educational experience and actively supports armed forces families. Lathallan is the only all-through school in Scotland to have been awarded the Gold Learning Outside the Classroom Quality (LOtC) quality mark, and was shortlisted for UK Small Independent School of the Year 2025.

Lathallan leverages nearly a century of experience to provide a ‘home-from-home’ for pupils aged 11 to 18 living within the historic 19th-century Brotherton Castle. Rated ‘Very Good’ by the Care Inspectorate, the boarding house functions as a family. An average class size of 12 ensures tailored pastoral care and academic support. As a national leader in outdoor education with some of the highest Duke of Edinburgh completion rates, the school builds resilience and leadership skills. At Lathallan, students don’t just observe the world, they are equipped with the skills to make their mark.

S6 pupil Adam embodies this spirit, having been awarded a British Army Scholarship, he is heading to RMAS Sandhurst with sights on 29 Commando Royal Artillery. As fellow S6 pupil Alexia says, “The world better be ready for us when we leave Lathallan.”

We know every child by name and nature!” Award-winning Scottish boarding school with a real family feel.
